Antigone: The Remix
Response/Review

Overall, I thought the play was a major success. On the first night, I heard there were some mistakes, but from the audience's point of view, it wasn't that bad. If there were any mistakes, it was barely noticeable or it wasn't even noticeable. The first scene was awesome. The music, the lighting, everything just pumped up the crowd. The fight scene really caught the people's attention and definitely made quite an impression.
The actors really did an outstanding job. Carlo sent a shiver down my spine and I totally felt his anger and understood the character. Naguine as Antigone was really good. I felt as if she did a really great job and the audience bought her character. The cast was put together really well, but the were some things I personally didn't like I'm not sure if it's the character or the actor, but Euridice was a bit weak. I thought it was the character because Euridice doesn't really do anything but sit and soak up whatever Creon says. Also, the rapping was a bit corny. It was a great twist to ass to the modern theme of the play, but I felt as if I couldn't understand what they were saying. Maybe it's the sound system, maybe it was the music overpowering their voice, whatever it was, the audience really didn't respond to it. The one character the audience really responded to be the guard played by Natasha and Joseph. Although I thought Natasha did a better job, they both did a great job in getting the audience involved. When Natasha came out and delivered her speech, the audience laughed. They bought her performance and were better than comic relief to nullify the intense/ dramatic scenes. Although some performances overpowered others, overall, the actors did their job and entertained the audience.
The dancers were really awesome. They got the audience really hyped and they did a fantastic job. They kept up with the music and there weren't any mishaps. I think the audience really responded to them more than the play itself.
The set was amazing. The lighting was perfect and it was very impressive for them to use blocks as the arch, the tomb and just a background prop. The lighting was great and it really made a difference. It just seemed a bit dim, but that's our school right?
The costumes were pretty cool. You can also see the transitions from the casual part of the play to the serious part from Creon's costume change. The camouflage reflected the seriousness of the kingdom and the hardcore effects of it all. The soldiers looked great with their armor, shields and spears. The looked great when the light turned off and their helmets lit up. The dancer's costume costumes looked perfect. They had all of the necessary elements to strike the audience's fancy. The costumes were stunning and really affected the look of the play.
Lastly the music was perfect. It really fit the mood and the look of the play. For example, the glow-in-the-dark/ was sequence really fit the techno/trance music. Also, techno/trance tends to pump the audience up and get them prepared for an outstanding performance. The middle- eastern music was great for the belly dancing sequence. It got everyone in the mood and it was a great twist for an old Greek play. I think the two cultures really clashed well and went hand-in-hand with each other.
The play itself was awesome. Never have I seen something like it and the response was incredible. My friends proclaimed they waited to join play production after seeing the outcome of the play. The important part of the play itself was the audience's appeal. They loved it and if the missed it, they truly missed out on an awesome performance.
