Eagle Rock Stage
This is Eagle Rock Stage
Eagle Rock Stage is the producing company for Eagle Rock High School's dance, drama and music departments, whenever these independent programs choose to collaborate on a major production. Located in North East Lost Angeles, our students represent an ethnic mix of Hispanic, Filipino, Caucasian and other minorities. Under the direction of Russell Copley, our shows have addressed the need for multicultural theatre in our community. Antigone: The Remix was styled in a "Bollywood" cum Greek fusion of old and new trends. Belly dancing and saris, bahangra dance trax and middle eastern techno remixes flavored the sound. In La Loteria, a Mexican bingo game was brought alive through the "Spanglish" dialect of the "East Los" neighborhood, mixed with traditional Mexican folklorico dances and songs from Celia Cruz, Shakira and others. A Streetcar Named Desire brought alive an American southern classic. This was poignant in the fact that students were very active in raising funds for Hurricane victims in the Mississippi delta. We addressed the African American influence on our language and the historical French connection to our colonial past. Currently in Macbeth, we have turned "The Scottish Play" into a martial arts styled, pan Asian epic. Katanas, kimonos, geishas and samurai within a minimalist design, with music from Korean hymns and British club cult classics from the 1980's such as The Cure, Joy Division, David Bowie and Tears for Fears.
In the last twelve months Eagle Rock thespians have donated over $3,300 for the Humane Society of Louisiana and for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. Students are inspired to see the arts take an activist role in humanitarian relief.
Our goal is to take a student production to the 2008 Edinburgh Festival in Scotland.
